The leadership of the SUA Campus of Mizengo Pinda in Katavi Region has thanked the Government for facilitating the availability of more than 18 billion shillings through the Higher Education Project for Economic Reforms (HEET) project which will improve the infrastructure of the Campus to be modern.

 

The thanks have been given by the principal of the college, Prof. Josiah Katani while talking to SUAMEDIA about the strategies and plans put through the project to improve the infrastructure of the new campus of the Sokoine University of Agriculture located in Kibaoni Ward, Mpimbwe Council in Katavi Region.

“In fact, we continue to thank the government for providing us with eight million US dollars from this HEET project, for us it has been a pleasure because we are going to open our college so that it can grow by putting in the infrastructure that is important, in that money which is equal to 18 billion shillings, they will build a hostel of students with the capacity to carry 600 students, the Mtambuka building which will have classrooms and laboratories that will carry 2500 to 3000 students, building a food court for 300 people at once as well as the purchase of a bus to carry students,” said Prof. Katani.

The Principal of the College said that in addition to the buildings, the HEET Project will also improve and build a training farm (Model Farm) as well as a bee farm and that all these efforts are to enable the students of the Campus to do practical training, something that is important in to find experts who specialize in those fields.

Prof. Katani said that the completion of the buildings and infrastructure will make the campus and the College grow more and attract more students to study at the Mizengo Pinda campus because it will have all the important things needed for a student to learn.

In addition, the Principal of the College has also commended the project for providing funding to its Academics to study because many of them were instructors but after returning to studies with a Master’s Degree they will become assistant lecturers.

“When these teachers leave school, they will be able to teach undergraduate courses but also diplomas and diplomas, so we as a College see it as a great success for us brought by this HEET project,” explained Prof. Katani.

Prof. Katani has said that they also congratulate the College for the way they are implementing the project with great participation, but it has also been providing training in various fields as they have received various teams that come to take implementation opinions but also others to provide training on Gender issues.

He has said that it is a project of its kind that has touched every part, for example, to build the capacity of Academics and Students but also to provide them with an infrastructure that will enable the coverage to be easy as well as improve network services that are important in teaching and learning.
