The focus area of construction and renovation of physical infrastructure holds paramount significance in the university’s pursuit to become the Academic Centre of Excellence in Agriculture and Agribusiness, Climate Change, and Wildlife Management.
SUA plans to invest in the construction or renovation of physical infrastructure to address the increasing enrollment and improve the learning environment.
The priority areas include:
i) Construction or renovation of academic buildings
Two academic blocks will be constructed, one at the Edward Moringe Campus (Main) and the other at the Solomon Mahlangu Campus. These blocks will provide additional learning spaces such as lecture halls, classrooms, faculty offices, seminar rooms, and conference rooms. The buildings will be well-furnished and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the learning and teaching experience. Additionally, the design of the buildings will consider environmental sustainability by incorporating features like rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and utilities saving mechanisms. The conference rooms in these academic blocks can also be utilized for external meetings, generating income for the University.
ii) Establishment of state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure and an Online learning infrastructure
SUA aims to create a robust information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure to facilitate online learning. This includes the development of a Virtual Learning Environment, Proctoring systems, and Online conferencing platforms. These measures will modernize the teaching and learning process, enabling students and faculty to access educational resources and collaborate effectively in virtual spaces.
iii) Construction and furnishing of the building for an Innovation Hub in Engineering technologies
SUA plans to establish an Innovation Hub focused on engineering technologies and the incubation of innovative projects. This facility will support students and researchers in developing and nurturing technological solutions to address challenges in agriculture, agribusiness, climate change, and wildlife management.
iv) Rehabilitation of buildings to cater to people with special needs
In line with the principle of inclusive education, SUA will renovate existing buildings to be more accessible for individuals with special needs. The modifications will include ramps, lifts, and accessible washrooms to accommodate the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
