Biography
Mary Raphael Marcel is working as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Human Nutrition and Consumer Sciences at Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania.
She specialized in Human Nutrition as well as in Family and Consumer Studies. She is involved in teaching undergraduate students, conducting research and consultancy on various aspects of Nutrition, Consumer Studies, Fashion and Textile studies.
Ms. Marcel holds M.Sc. in Applied Human Nutrition from Makerere University -Uganda and B.Sc in Family and Consumer Studies from Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania. She is currently Pursuing MA. Fashion Design from AAS College in Greece, a study center of University of Sunderland where she is planning to focus her research on the current and emerging technologies in the Fashion industry.
She is so much interested and passionate about fashion design, crafts and innovative projects. Through her talent on designing and creation, she has made a remarkable contribution in designing and producing unique and elegant graduation gowns and causal wears for Sokoine University of Agriculture staff and students.

Ms. Marcel`s goal is to explore various new Fashion and Textiles technologies through practical and research. Her knowledge will help discover some challenges and obstacles facing Textiles and Fashion industry in Tanzania as well as contributing in developing strategies to overcome them. Furthermore, she will provide theoretical and practical skills that will add in the available knowledge on planning, establishing and implementing different strategies useful in operating and establishing Textile industries in the country. She believes that, her contribution will be very useful asset to her employer as well as to her country as far as research, consultancies and projects on Fashion and Textiles are concerned.

HEET Project Scholarship
Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) is a World Bank funded project implemented by Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) through the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. Amongst the objectives of the HEET project is capacity building for government universities by unlocking the staff challenges of lacking scholarships in some fields of specialization. Therefore, through this project several SUA staff have received a fully funded scholarships for different study levels in different countries in the world. The expected outcomes of the HEET project are an increased number of highly qualified academic staff who can lead, manage and contribute in implementing the strategic plans for the HEET project at SUA.
The HEET scholarship has helped me to fulfil my dream of upgrading my knowledge my pursuing Master`s in Fashion Design abroad. I believe that, the obtained Master`s will serve as a starting point for future career growth and development in Fashion and Textile field. Moreover, the HEET scholarship has connected me with diverse professionals in the field which is a bridge for future connection and collaborations.
Plans for Future
Further studies (PhD) in fashion and textile studies is an immediate aspired career development after my Master`s studies. It is my anticipation that further studies will broaden and sharpen my knowledge with new and advanced technologies and skills that will help in improving teaching performance, planning projects and researches that will inspire students to more innovative project ideas for the benefit of the country at large. This will help in creating competent graduates who will contribute in improving and expanding Textiles and Fashion industries in Tanzania.
Giving Credit and Expressing Gratitude
I am flattered to express my sincere gratitude to SUA HEET project committee, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for have been selected me as a beneficiary of the HEET scholarship. Thanks to your generous consideration, I have been able to travel to abroad for my studies where I have gained different experiences from different people which will be useful in my career growth.
